The Hekla LavaBox isn’t your standard fire pit. Built from 304 stainless steel with brass accents and a genuine leather handle, it’s designed to be as rugged as it is striking. LavaBox was invented by Josh Thurmond — a 25-year expedition leader, raft, kayak, and climbing guide — out of Colorado during forest fire season. The idea: take a military-grade ammo can, build a propane burner inside, and you've got a fire-safe portable campfire that works during fire bans, on rafts, and anywhere an open fire isn't welcome. The team partners with Protect Our Rivers and is built around "keeping the fire alive while protecting the wild places we all depend on." Josh's title at the company is Chief Eruption Officer.

Why is this a pre-order when it shows stock?
LavaBox builds to order in Colorado and opens each production run for pre-sale, so the quantity you see reflects units in the current build rather than boxes sitting on a shelf. Your order reserves a unit in that run. Check the lead time on this page before ordering, and reach out if you need it by a specific date.
When will my pre-order ship?
Ship dates depend on which model you order and where it falls in the current production run. The lead time shown on this page is our most recent estimate direct from LavaBox. These are handmade in small batches and dates can move — if the timing matters for a trip or a gift, email us before you order and we will confirm the current run status.
Can I cancel a pre-order?
Yes. If the lead time no longer works for you, contact us and we will cancel and refund the order as long as it has not already shipped. We would rather cancel cleanly than have you waiting on something you needed last week.
What makes the Hekla different from the Original LavaBox?
The Hekla is built from 304 stainless steel with brass accents and a leather handle, rather than the ammo can construction of the Original. Both run a dual-burner system at up to 280,000 BTUs.
How many Hades Stones can it take?
Up to 24 stones for the Hekla, compared with 12 for the Original LavaBox. Ten to twelve come in the box.
What is not included?
The Over/Under Grill Thingy, BugOut Bag, and Thor's Hammer are sold separately, as is the propane tank. The regulator, hose, and a set of Hades Stones are included.
How long does shipping take?
Most orders process within 1–3 business days from our warehouse. From there: 5–7 business days economy, 2–3 business days expedited, or overnight if you need it fast. Free economy shipping on orders over $150 (contiguous US). Alaska, Hawaii, and Pro Eagle / freight items are quoted at checkout. You’ll get a tracking number and link the moment your order ships.
What’s your return policy?
30 days from the day your order arrives. Gear has to come back unused, with all original tags, stickers, and packaging intact. For standard items we’ll send a prepaid return label and deduct return shipping from your refund. Oversized or freight returns are on you, unless the item showed up damaged, defective, or wrong — in which case we cover it.
Refunds hit your original payment method within 10 business days of approval.
What can’t I return?
Final-sale items, gift cards, food and drink products, personal-care items, anything customized or engraved, briefs (hygiene), and hazardous materials. If you’re not sure whether something qualifies, email us before you order — we’ll tell you straight.
Do you ship outside the contiguous US?
Yes. Alaska, Hawaii, and US territories ship on freight-quoted rates calculated after checkout. International orders are available worldwide at variable rates; duties and import fees are the customer’s responsibility. EU customers get a 14-day cancellation window per EU consumer law, on top of our standard return policy.
My package arrived damaged — what now?
Email info@stayreadyoutdoors.com within 7 days of delivery with your order number and clear photos of the damage (product + packaging). We’ll replace, refund, or ship a return label on us — no back-and-forth. Damaged, defective, or wrong-item claims never cost you shipping.
Can I talk to a human before buying?
Yes. Email info@stayreadyoutdoors.com — we answer every message ourselves, usually within a few hours during business days. We carry this gear, we use this gear, and we’d rather talk you out of a kit that doesn’t fit your mission than sell you the wrong one.
