About The Buffalo Wool Co

The Buffalo Wool Co — American Bison Fiber, Family-Run

Ron and Theresa Miskin have been raising bison in North Texas for nearly thirty years. Out of Weatherford, they've spent over a decade stitching together a supply chain of small mills, local designers, and American ranches — turning bison fiber into socks, gloves, beanies, scarves, and leather goods. Every product carries a 100% guarantee, and every sale helps preserve the American Plains Bison.

Why bison fiber

Bison down is the warmest fiber-per-weight outside of vicuña — softer than wool, more insulating than synthetics, and naturally moisture-wicking. The Buffalo Wool Co.'s Red Dog line uses bison-merino blends for socks, the Trekker for boot weight, the American Field for crew height, and pure bison down for the Extreme Gear balaclava. See the full apparel collection for cross-brand layering.

Built for cold-weather work

These aren't decoration. Bison socks resist blister formation, regulate temperature in both ranges, and outlast equivalent merino-only socks in the same conditions. The balaclava handles Iditarod-grade cold; the infinity scarf packs into a jacket pocket. Cold Weather Survival covers the broader winter loadout.

All American supply chain

Fiber, yarn, knitting — every step happens domestically. Made in the USA isn't a marketing line at The Buffalo Wool Co.; it's the entire business model. Pair with beanies & watch caps for headwear options and Fall & Winter Gear for season-specific layering.

New to bison-fiber apparel? Start with a single pair of Trekker socks or a Red Dog beanie. The first wear-test usually does more selling than any catalog page.
