About Pace Count Beads

Pace Count Beads & Ranger Beads

Ranger beads and pace-count tools for tracking ground distance without electronics. Essential land-navigation aids for orienteering, military, and serious backcountry movement — count your paces, advance a bead per 100 meters, know exactly where you are.

How ranger beads work

Ranger beads slide on cord with two sections (9 beads above, 4 below). Each time you've walked 100 meters (counted in paces specific to your stride), slide a bead. After nine 100-meter beads, slide one bead in the second section (representing 1 kilometer) and reset the 100-meter beads. Result: precise distance tracking on any pace.

Calibrate your pace count

Pace count is personal — your stride length determines how many paces equal 100 meters. Measure on flat ground (typically 60–75 paces for most people), then test on uphill and downhill to develop adjusted counts for different terrain. Calibrate once; trust forever.

Pair with the full nav system

Ranger beads work alongside the broader navigation system. Pair with Compasses for direction, Map Tools for distance measurement, Navigation Tools for related accessories, and Navigation Guides for skill development.

Count paces. Know distance. Navigate without electronics.
