Filtration vs. treatment vs. storage

Three different problems with three different solutions. Filtration (Sawyer, GRAYL, Katadyn) removes particulates and pathogens at point of use. Treatment (Aquatabs, Cana Provisions) chemically neutralizes contamination. Storage (Ready H2O 20-year bottled, Nalgene reusables) keeps known-clean water available. Match the system to the source

Filter choice depends on what you're filtering. Sawyer hollow-fiber works for backcountry creeks and rainwater. GRAYL press-purifiers handle hotel-tap and well water on top of backcountry. Pair with the broader system

Water sits next to Heating (to cook the freeze-dried meals you'll rehydrate), Food Procurement (most stored food requires water for prep), and survival tools (for collection and transport). A complete water plan accounts for daily intake, food prep, hygiene, and reserve.

Starting point for most kits: one Sawyer Mini for filtration, one pack of Aquatabs for backup, and one 1-liter Nalgene for carry. Build outward from there based on group size and trip duration.
