Backpacks — Carry Systems for Every Loadout
The pack is the framework that holds the kit. SRO's Backpacks collection runs from minimalist daypacks through ultralight backpacking systems, balance packs, military assault packs, and overland-grade vehicle bags. Each pack here is chosen for one criterion: would it survive a real expedition?
Pack categories by mission
Different uses need different pack architecture. Light Hiking Gear's Aarn balance packs distribute load via front-side compartments for scientific weight distribution. ALPS Mountaineering covers entry-level backpacking. M-Tac, FullTang Tactical, and Maxpedition cover the tactical side. See Light Hiking Gear for ultralight options and Sling Packs for secondary-bag alternatives.
Size and capacity
Day pack (20-30L) covers an EDC overnight. 3-day pack (30-50L) covers most weekend trips and short bug-out scenarios. Expedition pack (50-80L+) covers multi-day backcountry and extended emergency setups. Match the volume to the days you'll actually carry — most users overbuy on capacity.
Pair with accessories and modular kit
Packs are the spine of a complete kit — pair with pack accessories, pouches, and patches for customization. For carry-on-body gear, see EDC and belts.
Starting from zero? A single 30L daypack covers EDC carry, day hikes, and emergency 72-hour kit deployment. Upgrade based on the trips you actually take, not the trips you imagine taking.
