About Shelter Accessories

Shelter Accessories — Setup, Anchor, Protect

A tarp without stakes is just a sheet. A tent without proper anchoring is a wind hazard. SRO's Shelter Accessories collection covers the supporting hardware that turns shelter material into functional protection — anchors, lines, stakes, repair kit, and the small but critical pieces that get overlooked.

Anchoring and tensioning

Soft ground, sand, snow, and frozen earth all defeat conventional tent stakes. GroundGrabba's screw-in anchors drive into substrates where traditional stakes pull out — see the dedicated Ground Anchors collection for the full lineup. Atwood Rope MFG's mil-spec paracord covers the cordage side; Cordage has the wider rope and line selection.

Tarps, fastenings, and repair

The little stuff matters: tarp clips, line tensioners, repair tape (Rescue Tape, Gear Aid), and emergency bivvies for backup shelter. A torn tent at 3am needs Tenacious Tape, not a replacement order. Carry the small repair stuff so the big shelter survives the trip.

Pair with the right shelter

Shelter accessories pair with the tents, hammocks, and bivvies they support. Light Hiking Gear covers ultralight balance packs and shelter systems. Fall & Winter Gear adds season-specific protection. For full survival kits including shelter, see Survival Gear.

If you're building a shelter system from scratch, start with the primary shelter, then immediately add: stakes/anchors, paracord (15-25 ft minimum), a tarp clip set, and a roll of repair tape. Those four turn any shelter into a deployable system.
