LavaBox — Portable Propane Campfire in an Ammo Can
LavaBox was invented by Josh Thurmond — a 25-year expedition leader and raft/kayak/climbing guide — out of Colorado during forest fire season. The idea: take a military-grade ammo can, build a propane burner inside, and you've got a fire-safe portable campfire that works during fire bans, on rafts, and anywhere an open fire isn't welcome.
Where it shines
Fire-banned campgrounds, river trips, backyard ambiance without the ash cleanup, and any scenario where you want real flame without real ember risk. See Propane Fire Pits & Accessories for the broader propane lineup and Woodburning Pits for wood-fueled alternatives.
Built around partnership
LavaBox partners with Protect Our Rivers, and the team's tagline says the rest: "keeping the fire alive while protecting the wild places we all depend on." Josh's title is Chief Eruption Officer.
Pair with Heating and Stoves & Accessories for the full thermal kit.
Starting with LavaBox? The Original ammo-can model handles most use cases — small enough for boat trips, big enough for backyard ambiance.
