About Fixed Blade Knives

Fixed Blade Knives — Bushcraft, Survival, and Heavy-Use Blades

A fixed blade has no moving parts to fail. It's the workhorse of any serious cutting kit — bushcraft, survival, hunting, and field maintenance. SRO carries fixed blades from KA-BAR Becker, ESEE, LionSteel, Toor, Bradford, and Daggerfish — each engineered for hard-use scenarios.

Blade categories by task

Different field tasks need different blade geometries:

  • Bushcraft (scandi grind, 4-5 inch) — wood processing, fire prep, shelter building
  • Survival (full tang, 5-7 inch) — heavy chopping, batoning, multi-purpose
  • EDC fixed (drop point, 3-4 inch) — daily-carry, food prep, field utility
  • Tactical (clip point, 5-7 inch) — defense and operational use

Steel and handle matters

Carbon steel (1095) holds an edge longer but rusts faster. Stainless (CPM-S30V, M390) resists corrosion at the cost of edge retention. Handle materials run G10 and Micarta for durability, paracord wrap for grip in wet conditions. See Cutting Tools for the broader knife and multi-tool category and Sharpeners for edge maintenance.

Pair with the kit

Fixed blades pair with fire-starting tools (batoning kindling), paracord (lash points), and survival kits. An ESEE 4 or KA-BAR Becker BK2 is a serious workhorse blade that lives in nearly every well-built kit.

If you've never owned a quality fixed blade, start with an ESEE 4 or KA-BAR Becker BK2. Both are field-proven, lifetime-warrantied, and priced at the bottom of the serious-blade range.
