About Heating

Heating — Warmth That Doesn't Depend on the Grid

When the power's out, when the weather turns, when the cabin's cold — heat becomes the highest-priority resource after water. SRO's Heating collection covers everything from air-activated body warmers to propane fire pits, including the camping stoves that double as winter cooking.

Layered heating strategy

Real heat planning stacks: body-level (HotHands air-activated warmers), ambient (LavaBox propane fire pits, Fireside Outdoor pop-up pits), and cooking (Olicamp, Optimus, Solo Stove). Each layer addresses a different scenario. See Stoves & Accessories for the cooking-specific subset and Woodburning Pits & Accessories for the larger fire-pit options.

Body warmers — the prep insurance policy

HotHands (Dalton, Georgia — 80% of the U.S. market since 1989) air-activated hand, body, and toe warmers cost less than fuel and never need re-loading. Stock them. Fall & Winter Gear has the broader seasonal kit.

Pair with the broader prep

Heating connects to stored food (cooking the freeze-dried meals), water (most filters and tablets need above-freezing temps to work), and cold-weather gear for full winter planning. Heat is rarely a standalone problem.

Minimum kit for any northern climate: one stove with fuel, one ambient heat option (fire pit or candle lantern), and a stock of body warmers. Build outward as your environment and budget allow.
