Cordage — Paracord, Rope, and Mil-Spec Line
Rope is one of the most useful items in any kit. Shelter setup, repair, gear hauling, emergency descent, signaling, and a thousand small uses depend on having quality cord available. SRO carries Atwood Rope Mfg's mil-spec lineup, Teufelberger personal escape ropes, and the specialty cordage for serious applications.
Paracord and micro-cord
Atwood Rope MFG out of Millersport, Ohio is a U.S. Government Contractor (CAGE# 9HDY0) making mil-spec 550 paracord since 1985 — the cordage standard for military, marine, and outdoor work. They also produce micro cord (95-cord), utility lines, and specialty braids in dozens of colors. See Atwood Rope Mfg for the full brand collection.
Personal escape and load-bearing rope
For climbing, rappelling, and personal escape, Teufelberger (Maxim New England) produces 7mm low-stretch ropes rated for emergency descent — 60m, 70m, and 80m lengths. CMI rope guards protect line at crucial wear points. Always pair load-bearing rope with appropriate training and recovery hardware.
Pair with anchors, knots, and shelter
Cordage works alongside GroundGrabba anchors for shelter setup, knot-tying books (Peter Owen's reference is the standard), and tarps and stakes for full shelter systems.
Minimum kit for any outdoor pack: 25-50 ft of 550 paracord. From there, scale up by use case — bigger kit for bigger shelters, low-stretch rope for rappel-capable kits, micro cord for fishing and snare backup.
